September always feels like the start of a new year to me here in the UK, what with a new school year and the end of the summer break. The weather starts to change and as the new season is nearly upon us it's the perfect time to start an autumnal project.

Here's the recipe for my Bright Autumn granny square blanket.... it's not a full crochet pattern, but it has all the steps and ingredients for you to make your own.
To make the same blanket you will need to know:
How to make a basic granny square
The 'Continuous Join As You Go' method (you can use another joining method if you prefer)
How to do V-stitch
How to do picot stitch border
There are lots of YouTube tutorials for all of these if you are unsure.
Yarn:
These are what I would call 'bright' autumnal shades in DK weight yarn which I found in my stash. The Fox colour yarn can look red on screen but it's a rust or reddish brown colour - hence the name!
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK in Fox – 1 x 100g skein
Stylecraft Special DK 100g skein: 2 x Parchment, 1 x Storm Blue, 1 x Cypress
Paintbox Yarns Simply DK in Mustard Yellow – 1 x 100g skein

Hook:
4mm
Granny Squares:
Basic granny square pattern
25 squares in total
5 rounds per square, mixed colours but 1st round is always in Parchment for all squares
Joining Method
Continuous Join As You Go in Parchment
5 squares x 5 squares
Once I had joined all the squares I continued with 4 x rounds of Parchment in granny stitch before moving on to the border.

Border:
I made the border with the following rounds:
1 x Mustard Yellow V-stitch
1 x Parchment granny stitch
1 x Cypress V-stitch
1 x Parchment granny stitch
1 x Storm Blue Yellow V-stitch
1 x Parchment granny stitch
1 x Fox V-stitch
1 x Parchment granny stitch
1 x Parchment Double Crochet in UK Terms / Single Crochet in US terms
1 x Parchment picot stitch
My blanket came out approx. 38 x 38 inches after washing and gentle blocking by drying flat.
You could make this blanket in any yarn brand or weight, just adjust your hook size accordingly, and note the finished size will be different.

Hopefully this has inspired you to make your own Bright Autumn Granny Square Blanket!
