Spring Sunburst Baby Blanket

If you live in the UK like me, you'll be well aware of the continual rain we have had for the start of 2026. This grey, cold weather led me to crochet something with pretty pastel shades, full of the joys of spring!

I had some leftover Yarnsmiths Pebble Haze DK, in just the right colours, and plenty of Yarnsmiths Create DK in Off White, which is the perfect neutral. Both yarns are available online at Wool Warehouse.
I've written up the 'recipe' for my blanket below - I say 'recipe' because it's not a full written pattern, but gives you all the guidance you need to make one of your own.
To make this blanket you will need to know (or learn):
Basic crochet stitches
How to crochet granny squares and sunburst granny squares
How to use Continuous Join As You Go Method
Yarn:
Yarnsmith's Pebble Haze DK - 50g balls (67% Cotton / 33% Acrylic)
1 x Lavender Quartz
1 x Petalite
1 x Yellow Topaz
1 x Blue Beryl
1 x Ludlamite
Yarnsmith's Create DK in shade 'Off-White' - 100g balls x 3 (I used just under 240g) (100% acrylic)
Please note! I used the whole 50g ball of all the colours (except Yellow Topaz) so be aware if your tension is different you may need more than one ball of those colours.
Hook:
4mm (G/6 size in US)
Finished size:
My finished blanket measured approx. 39 x 39 inches (not yet washed)

Squares:
Make 25 sunburst granny squares in total – 5 of each colour:
Sunburst rounds 1, 2, and 3 are in the same colour yarn.
Square off the sunburst in Off-White.
Joining Method:
Lay out the sunbursts so that each row and column have 1 of each colour.
Using the off-white yarn and the Continuous Join As You Go method, join the squares (feel free to use any joining method!)
NOTE: You can find lots of brilliant tutorials for ‘Continuous Join As You Go’ by other makers on YouTube if you search. (Please note this method is different to ‘Join As You Go’ where you join each square together as you are making them.)
Grow The Blanket:
Once joined, continue working rounds of granny clusters as follows:
1 x Off-White
Alternate each colour and Off-White (Petalite / Lavender / Blue Beryl / Ludlamite / Yellow / Ludlamite / Blue Beryl / Lavender / Petalite)
2 x Off-White
Border:

I edged the blanket using simple shell stitch - to be able to do this you must have an even number of granny clusters on each side of the blanket.
The lovely Hooked by Robin has a fab tutorial for this edging on YouTube: Shell Scalloped Edging
You could make this blanket in any yarn brand or weight, just adjust your hook size and yarn quantities accordingly, and note the finished size will be different.
Hopefully this has inspired you to make your own Spring Sunburst Baby Blanket! I’d love to see your makes, tag me on Instagram @harrietsduck and use the hashtag #springsunburstblanket
