We are already nearly half way through the year, so I thought it really was about time to share some details of my Temperature Blanket 2025!

After seeing so many beautiful temperature blankets over the years, I decided I'd make my own for 2025. There are lots of different styles and stitches you can use, but I decided (of course!) to make a granny square temperature blanket.

I am forever on a mission to use up my stash of yarn rather than purchasing new, so I looked through what I had at home, and picked DK yarn in several pretty, soft shades for the cooler temperatures, and some richer (but still pretty!) shades for the warmer temperatures.

I plan to make 378 squares:

  • 365 days

  • 12 months

  • 1 extra for my birthday!

There will be 21 rows of 18 squares, so a sizeable blanket!

My granny squares are made of just two rounds, the centre is the lowest temperature of the day where I live, and 2nd round is the highest temperature. The 12 x month squares will be made in cream so they stand out.

Many people have a different colour for every degree of temperature, but I've chosen to assign a colour to every 3 degrees as follows:

  • 0 and below - Paper White (Paintbox Simply DK)

  • 1-3 - Misty Grey (Paintbox Simply DK)

  • 4-6 - Seafoam Blue (Paintbox Simply DK)

  • 7-9 - Duck Egg Blue (Paintbox Simply DK)

  • 10-12 - Vanilla Cream (Paintbox Simply DK)

  • 13-15 - Pistachio Green (Paintbox Simply DK)

  • 16-18 - Buttermilk (Stylecraft Special DK)

  • 19-21 - Candyfloss Pink (Paintbox Simply DK)

  • 22-24 - Blush Pink (Paintbox Simply DK)

  • 25-27 - Pale Lilac (Painbox Simply DK)

  • 28-30 - Fuchsia Pink (Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK)

  • 31+ - Violet (Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK)

  • To Join - Cream (Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK)

My joining method is Continuous Join as You Go, and I'm snaking my days, starting in the top left hand corner of the blanket, so sometimes I have to wait until I have enough squares for a whole row before I can join.

So far I am really enjoying this project! It's fun to see the changes in temperature, and I think I may even get to use some of the richer colours over the next week, as the temperatures here on the South Coast of the UK are set to increase!

It can be tricky to keep up when I'm busy, but so far I've managed it, and find that Sunday is a nice day to make my squares from the week.

I'll aim to post another blog update on this project in September, or pop along to my Instagram page to see weekly updates!

I hope this may have inspired you to try a temperature blanket for yourself! Instagram is always full of inspiration, if you use the hashtag to search. There are some amazing variations you could try from some wonderful crocheters!

Happy crocheting!
